Anyone else find that damn dipstick almost impossible to remove and put back in? :p

What is the best fluid (to match the stock stuff) to add in if you just want to top up for the tranny? I have only had the car 1 year and a month now, I wouldn't think I would have to be concerned about tranny fluid after only 21,000 miles. I have never seen anything leaking... do you think it's possible that the factory didn't fill it all the way? Car is parked at a slight angle... but I wouldn't think that would cause the reading to be that low.

Go for a drive to warm it up, then check it at a gas station with a flat drive. Slight incline can make a huge difference, so can the fluid not being at operating temp.

My dipstick is a BUGGER to get in and out due to those stupid wire bundles fastened right above them. :curse: If you manhandle them out of the way it goes in and comes out a lot easier.

As far as adding fluid goes, you could try going to Carter's parts department and buying a bottle for $10 or whatever, but if you're just topping it off for the next 9000 miles, grab any old bottle of (dino) 75W-90 off the shelf at Schuck's. I just switched to Mobil 1 synthetic in the tranny and rear diff and I like it a lot better.

Nick, thanks for the tips. Yes the reading was much better after everything was warmed up. I saw the Mobil 1 at shucks... 6.99/quart, something like that. Yikes! Does it feel not so crunchy with that in there?

Yeah, 6.99 blows goats. And you need one for the back, 4 for the front. Ugh.

Just driving down the road there is about 0 vibration on the knob now. It used to wiggle all over the place like a massager. But now it's silky smooth. Every once and a while I'll move my hand faster than the synchros upshifting into 1st gear and I'll get a juicy "crunch", but I've only done it like three times since the change, so I'm going to live with it and adjust my driving habits to match.
