First, a little history.
When I was 17, I bought my first Subaru. It was a four door 1999 Subaru Impreza 2.2L in Aspen White. I hated it. It was slow, ugly looking and there was next to nothing as far as modifications went. I had lowered it, put it on some WRX wheels and had a few other insignificant things. After almost a year of driving it, I came to terms that it would never be what I wanted it to be, but I was satisfied as it was. I happened to be rummaging through the paper and saw something I immediately fell in love with. It was a listing for a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS Coupe in BRP - 68k miles, fully loaded (every possible option) bone stock and owned by a chick. I had to have it... So a week later and $9,500 less, I had my semi "dream car".
I immediately started modifying it. I tinted the windows, put a rear sway bar in, cold air intake, borla headers and a catback exhaust. I put in a complete new sound system along with some other shenanigans. I got compliments everywhere I went, and I was truly in love.
On February 14th I decided to go see "Jumper" with a friend of mine at the local theater. It had rained the night before and was now below freezing, a recipe for disaster and I knew it, so I took my time. I came around a 20mph turn and hit a huge patch of ice. My rear end kicked out and I slid down the road sideways. I pulled the car back into my lane... what I thought would be just in time... only to find an SUV right in my path. The 16 year old girl (who had just got her license) in the oncoming car panicked and swerved left over the double yellow line and hit me, head-on. I went into a tree and she went through a fense. Everyone was okay, except for my baby.
Long story short, I didn't have coverage and her insurance fought me on it. After weeks of searching, I found a 2000 Sedan in Connecticut for the listed price of $4500. After weeks of trying to meet up with the guy and almost everything had gotten in the way, I finally got my chance. It turned out to be an almost-exact replica of my first RS... except this was four door (which was fine by me). I bargained the guy down to $3700 and walked away with another RS and another chance. I took all the good parts from the coupe (leather interior, all aftermarket stuff etc etc), and I parted the rest out. Despite the temporary anguish and upset, in the end, everything worked out waayy better than I ever could have imagined. See post #3 for a list of current modifications.
The headgaskets on the new RS were blown, so with Chris (Jurzeyfresh) and Josh's (Joshua) help, we rebuild the motor from the old RS and put it into the new RS. See post #3 for the rebuild.
