It seems like there's a small aftermarket support for 205/50-16 size tires. There's the Yokohama AVS ES100 and the expensive Toyo T1-S, but I don't know if the Yokohama is a good performer. I would just love to have the Toyo rubber on mine, but I'll have to rob a few piggy banks to get them. Toyo T1-S tires are one of the lightest and grippiest Summer tires around. Here's the specs http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_specsheet.cfm?id=2

I know it depends on the type of tire, but in general, will a (195-205)/(45-50)-16 be a bad idea for summer? How about winter? Acceleration? Braking? Is the GC8 too heavy for the size? Tire wear? I've been debating on these tires and sizes for a long time and I can't seem to find a solution.

 i think you've been reading Toyo's website too much. certainly the best summer tire for the price (and perhaps any price) would be the Falken Azenias (unless you wanted to get DOT R tires, but that's another matter). SO-3 PP are good too, though not as good as their predecessor for outright performance. the P-zero and Eagle F1 are also extremely good and extremely expensive.

on to size. 205/whatever will be fine for a summer tire. you may even consider something along the lines of 215/45 16. i can't think of a reason to downsize for a summer tire. just keep in mind that a shorter sidewall will decrease your gearing, accelerating you quicker. for winter, alot of people run 195/65 15. you want a narrower tire for snow.

tire wear-it depends on the tire and your driving habbits.

I have been running 205x50x16's ever since I bought my car. I prefer this size over the 205x55x16. Much better turn in. It does throw off the speedo by 4 mph. I've tested this at many of those radar stations along side the road that show your speed. They all said 4 mph off between 25 mph up to 85 mph.

I also run 205x50x16 Michelin Arctic Alpins during the winter here in Colorado. They perform great. I haven't had a problem yet running this size during the winter. It's very predictable.

And for the summer I run the same size with Toyo Proxes FZ-4's which by the way is a great all-season type tire.

As for the size I say give it a shot. As for the tires well...my opinion is for the Toyo T1-S.
