Khaos, do you have any expereince with the ACT or are you just spreading the I-club opinion on it?

I have driven the SHIT out of my car with the ACT and have not had any gear box problems or blown gears. I even tried to kill it one night, and at the last SOLO did 4 wheel burnouts off the line....If you know how to properly drive a manual tranny you wont hurt your gear box...of you slam the clutch in an and out, drop it all the time etc...you can break it with a stock clutch..so dont pass on BS unless you have exeperience. This clutch has been poorly represented.

Ive driven that clutch before, and given that people with stock power using it have broken their gears, Im going to agree that it is a significant factor, its plain and simple, harsh engagement= cracked/fractured gearteeth.

I'm using an ACT, and have been for the last seven months. No problems. I have about 5 autocrosses on the clutch. There seems to be nothing wrong with it to me, and I have been turbo for one month. I do take it easy for the most part, but I THOUROUGHLY believe that its more about the way you shift, rather than the part itself.

So, I agree with Shawn on this one. ACT is good and holds power well, just don't drop the clutch at the line every time.

There's also the STi clutch that can be had. I think it might be Vivid Racing that has decent deals on them.... or maybe AV Sport....

Hell I forget. Leonardo from the Puerto Rico i-Club forum told me, when I went to visit in January. $700 or something, though I dunno if that's a deal or not. Never priced a clutch before. :D

I'd like some more info on this clutch if have it. I have never heard of anyone putting an STi clutch in a U.S. Spec Subie.

wont work, different type of clutch (pull vs push)

I wholeheartedly agree that the way you shift is a significant factor of transmission life. BUT, the abruptness of the engagement and the amount of shock that a clutch gives is a great factor as well. The ACT just has a history of blowing gears with less power than those running other brand clutches and
trannies in one piece...

I've had the ACT in my 98 RS-t for 30,000 miles, and have no troubles with it . never had a tranny problem at all. I think its a great clutch. I think its just a few bad drivers that don't understand the concept of launching an AWD car, they are giving the clutch a bad name!the product (if used properly) will perform as it is intended! don't criticze the broken product, but the driver that broke it!
