So I just changed out my trans and diff fluid. It's silky smooth and as a test I shifted into 1st at 25. Before I had to be at a complete stop. Every gear is smoother and I don't know if it's just in my head but it felt a tad quicker. I definitely recommend this.

I have always used:

1 qt Redline Lightweight Shockproof
3 qt Redline 75w90

Seems to work about the same as this but will save you a little money. But if you are really having trouble with your syncros the cocktail works great.

Nah, i've got Uncle Scotty's and it doesn't shift as well as it used to...

Stock: Shifted great, but was stiff as balls in cold weather.
Mobil1: Shifted crunchy, but quick...smooth as butter in cold weather
Scotty: Shifty slightly less crunchy, but not as good as stock...not too stiff in cold.

I'll be going back to stock 75-90 dino oil next time i change my tranny fluid. I might actually just change the tranny before then, though... ;)

I've used stock fluid since the car was new. I had it changed when I swapped my clutch, at 102K miles. I'm at 143K now.

North Ursalia recently suggested adding like 1/2 qt. of ATF to the tranny. I raised an eyebrow, but Brian knows his Subarus. :D He said it makes the gears more slippery.

I have seven quarts of OE 4EAT fluid that I need to use for my wife's '01 H-6 Outback, but I can probably spare 1/4 - 1/2 qt. for my car. So it's worth a try.
