I was wanting to put a new exhaust and intake on my RS. Is there anything I should be aware of as a new RS owner? Thanks

the best things to do in my own opinion and still keep the car reliable and fun

-catback exhaust
-intake
-lightweight crank pulley
-borla or borla replica header
-cat delete pipe or high flow cat pipe
then maybe...

some cams and a lightweight flywheel

Fair enough...Welcome to the site, we really are warm and cuddly here, my suggestions depend on how you want to drive your car, if you want it to be "quick" in the as quick as a stock Subie can be way...then go with what DAV3 said...but if you want to hug the corners, most definitely start with front and rear sway bars, and move to coilovers, springs etc etc... GL and again, welcome.

Exhaust is my favorite mod...

No matter what your N/A RS is still going to be "slow", but hearing the nice rumble of a boxer engine via a nice exhaust is very satisfying to me

+1 for sway bars! my whiteline 24/22mm bars were the best thing i did... i felt a big difference in the way my '06 felt! The stock bars are just sad when you take them off and compare the two...

welcome to the boards! you will love your 05. Best decision I ever made. Its alot of fun stock, but it is definitely time to start the mods!

I know its just for looks, but look at some wheels and high performance rubber for your car. Its amazing how much subarus benefit from better rubber.

I want to jump on the wagon here if I can.. I too just bought a 05 RS. i planned on swapping the f/r sway bars and adding coilovers and exhaust.. But My question is, What do you guys recommend on these parts. brands and where to buy? I'm a big Ebay fan and always have been but there are allot of different brands out there. the only coilovers I've seen are "Megan" a bit pricey.. is there anything else out there?? My car is a daily driver to give you an idea. thanks for any suggestions.

If you are a daily driver, I would stick to upgraded struts and springs. No matter what is said, unless you are tracking the car (and I don't mean autocross) the ride on even the softest coilovers is NOT worth the day to day ride quality. It will get old fast.

For aggressive driving and an occasional Auto-x, I would recommend Swift springs www.mannengineering.com and Tokico Spec-D adjustable struts http://www.fastwrx.com/todsh.html and you will also need spacers for the struts (they are all for '02 applications) http://www.fastwrx.com/ticscstsp.html

Also be aware that we are sort of the odd man out with the 2005. Make sure your intake is designed for an '05 or it won't work! I am using this ~ http://www.rallitek.com/incoinsypoal1.html

However, be aware that the intake is for nothing but bling and sound ~ you will gain just as much by doing this 'snorkus delete' and running a high flow panel filter (NO OILED filter, no K&N or Green, etc. Go with AEM, HKS... etc. Dry ONLY... the oil will coat your MAF and eventually make your car run poorly). http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113

Hey i got a question for you NW OBS... did you have to do anything to your ECU when you put that intake on... aside from resetting it? Because i have heard that the MAF sensor needs to be remapped...

Just reset it, no worries!

You will find all the struts (AGX, Tokico etc.) will be for -02-03 applications. With those spacers, they will work perfectly on your 2005!
