I've been looking around for awhile now and can't find if they will mate up.

But question is if I have a jdm ej20r that is knocking and I want to throw in an ej205 from an 03 wrx, is it possible.

I know both of their compression ratios are 8.0:1. But besides that nothing else has come up.

Yes it does work as that is what my car runs. The biggest issue is the head gasket. If you run the cheaper option (02 wrx head gasket) you have to get a small idler pulley for the timing belt that goes after the belt tensioner. You will run a compression ratio of around 8.5:1 depending on if you shave your heads.

You could also try and source Ver.III metal head gaskets to lower the compression back in the range of 8:1. But trying to source the gaskets can be a hassle.
