Is it true that a stock Impreza RS only puts about 96 ponies to the floor? That's an awefully lot of drivetrain loss from the 165 ponies Subaru claims. Can anyone clear this up? I'm going nuts! :boxer:

No, it's NOT true.
I've had my TS on a 4 wheel dyno and I'm pushing a lot more than the 175 that it came with stock.

Where did you hear that?
I suppose it varies from car to car

Not sure about the 96 number. Different dynos give different results. Horsepower to the wheels is not the same as flywheel horsepower!

Well stock it only came with 165, but you're getting more than that to the wheels? Dang. Assuming a 30% drivetrain loss that's 250hp at the crank. Interesting.

I've heard anything from 95-115hp to the wheels, it just depends what kind of dyno you are running on. But figure about a 30% driveline loss (like horatio said) due to the AWD system. Remember there are 3 differentials after the transmission, going to lose a bit of power there.

Beingmarc, 175 ponies sounds like you're running side by side with the WRXs. I don't think that dyno you were using counted the power to the wheels. I remember Larry Ganz using a dyno that measured his turbocharged RS around 700 whp. He then corrected us that that dyno counted all the drive wheels. I can't remember where/when (I-club or imprezars.com).

I guess around 115 whp is correct. I still think that's a small number. better work on the RS some more.
