OK, I'm trying to install the Hella driving lights that I got for Christmas, but I've run into a bit of a problem...

I don't own a voltmeter, and I'm not sure how to determine which wire going into the headlight is the high beam lead. I'm hoping someone here might be able to tell me which one it is by the color of the wire. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'd like to finish these up tomorrow.

Thanks!

Mike :)

Ugh. Personally, I wouldn't wire them into the headlights. Instead I'd use the ever-popular cigarette lighter to energize the relays.

But if you must I guess you must. I'll go check for you. I'm an idiot. Hahahaha. I went outside, froze my butt off, realized that I put a high power harness in, gave up because the wires are different, sat back down, and now I realize that because the wires are different colors means nothing. They're still in the same place. Maybe I should go to bed now.

I'll check it out in the mid-afternoon when I wake up. :D

OK, here goes. Looking AT the front of the connector, the side that goes onto the bulb, with the wires facing down, the top one (perp to the other two) is the low beam. The right side is the ground, and the left side is the high beam. I kinda thought the top would have been ground... but not so. :)

Ok sorry to stomp on your thread but it is kind of the same subject. I am thinking about purchasing some Hella 500's and mounting them next to the front license plate on either side. Now does anybody have a good idea about how to mount them in there without them moving around a lot? Thanks!

No problem, Sean, as my question had been answered.

I can't help you much with the 500's though, as the Hella's that I'm installing are 3" lights and I'm mounting them from underneath the bumper on either side of the license plate. I'm not sure if you can mount the larger lights in a "hanging" configuration or not, but I don't think so....

Yeah I have kinda run into a wall. I can't decide if I want to remove my stock fogs and put the driving lights in there or not. But I think I want to keep my fogs so I don't know what I should do. I know people have done this before! I just can't think of a way. Maybe I will just have to make a custom bracket for them if I want to put them in the bumper like that?

The lights I have came with "C" shaped brackets attached, and I just drilled up into the bumper beam to mount them. But, if yours don't have brackets already (and I don't remember those lights having any) that probably won't work.

I think Jamie (SubieGal) was selling a mounting bar for the big Hella's, but that wouldn't put them where you want.

It seems like I just saw a thread where someone mounted lights of that size in the same place that you're thinking of. Let me see if I can find it, because they may be able to help you more.

If you're thinking about my lights, they're a lot bigger than the 500s. :)

I took measurements off of Jamie's car and had some brackets bent (but I made mine larger to accommodate the 4000s). I've got room to mount a set of lights underneath, where you're talking about, in addition to the 4000s on top.

I have a 2000 and there are three wires going into the headlight, two are red and the third is yellow/blue(i think). The KC's were wired to the high beem and it works perfectly. Plus you should get a switch to mount somewhere inside to turn them off. I hole sawed through the bottom part of the bumper and had to cut out some of the hollow middle plastic crossbeam. I am so glad I installe them.

Puck! It was your pics that I was thinking of, so thanks for posting them! :)

I couldn't remember if you mounted them in the upper or lower portion of the bumper. Does the lower portion seem to be strong enough to hold them if they get hit by something?

Oh, and I determined the yellow/blue wire to be the high beam lead...I assume it was the same on your car?

horatio102- I know how big your lights are and I was not thinking of those.:) I was planning on putting them in the bumper and not on a light bar. I think that your lights look awesome.....but I wanted to go with something that looks a little different.

puckaveli- Thank you very much for the wiring info and also for the pic! That looks really nice on your car.

Mike M- Thanks again man!

Does anybody have a picture of the 500's mounted in the bumper? And how do you angle them how you want them? Any good bracket ideas for in the bumper? Thanks!
