Is it possible to use a ignition amp like the MDS unit or one of the other units out there with the Link2? If it was wired in so that all it did was amplify the spark wouldn't the Link2 still control the actual firing?
Don't really need it. MSD tested our coils -vs- their aftermarket ignition controllers and found no gain... in some cases a loss. The OE ignition system is very good... except for the wires. Stock wires are cheap Packard wires and have a very high resistance (had to increase plug gap 0.020" when I got low res wires!). If you want to increase spark, drop the wires' resistance and increase the plug gap the stock coil is more than capable.
Its plenty. The only reason the TEC-II/III use a different coil is b/c its a proprietary coil for the TEC. We've got the same coil the WRX and WRX STi's got overseas... trust me, if it ain't broke it doesn't need fixing.
