I got second place, I got second place!

Ran the Coors Field SCCA event today, with street tires (Dunlop SP Sport 5000's, 205/55/16's), 45 psi front tires, 32 psi rear tires, and otherwise completely stock, and I got second place in G-Stock (yeah, my car is STOCK!).

I was about 1 second behind a guy in a 1.8T Audi A4 quattro, with Kuhmo 225 R compound tires, and Koni sport struts.

And I have an automatic transmission! :D

Congratulate me folks!

Now when I get tires and struts you better watch out Mr. Audi! :curse:

Congrats James, that's damn impressive. I've heard on a 60 second course, adding R compounds is the equivalent of taking away 1.5 - 2 seconds.

I wouldn't know though, I run on street tires too.
Thank you! Yes, I've heard the same thing about tires. Considering this was a lot of corners on the course, I think it would have made a big difference. Especially if I went up to 225's. :D
congrats! i'll be racing in a track when i get my car........:D
That is truely impressive! I'm taking my 16yr old out to his first autocross next week. Should be interesting!
James,
And due in part, no doubt, to the fact that all the WRXs are now in another class (DS). Congrats, anyway.

As for me? No more rides to my fat buddies while I have my stock suspension in! The DMS are back at DMS-USA getting fixed. But then again, Biltsein PSS9s are on their way.

And here are the official results. Now, if I were running racing compound tires like everyone else, things might have been a LOT different. :D

It's fun beating WRX's , isn't it?:D In the first rallycross I ran in, I finished in forth place, and the nearest WRX to me was 14 seconds behind me!:D Turbo's just don't help much when you don't get to leave first gear, and that 2.0L just doesn't have the low-down grunt to pull it around.:D
Maybe you would have gotten 1st if you had a 5speed!!!

Just Joking, good job.

Yeah, whatever, then why were there all those other 5 speed RS's that were slower than me?

Wider, stickier tires would have made a bigger difference than the transmission, IMO. So there! :p
I have no room to talk, HotImprezaChick with 4big guys in her car was faster than me at the last auto-x I went to.
Not to pee in your porridge, but that course was basically an anomaly with the rolling start. There was no advantage either way in having or not having a manual tranny, but thats not the case during the regular season were the ability to come off the line hard is critical to a good time. Our winter series courses are generally less technical and more open (read, easier) than the regular season courses but just as fast.

Mark
Well then I guess the real test will be how I do over the course of the season. I'll post as I go, because I will go to all events. The proof will be in the results, huh? :D
That's a really good time, especially if you haven't been autocrossing that much. If you are going to continue to run street tires, you should think about coming to STS (Subaru Touring Stuntas) or get some R compound autocross tires (and there are few that will fit the RS without rubbing). Plus, in STS you can do suspension stuff and get gigantic wings.

I managed to come in 10th in STS, but that was just because Mark (Tangmere) was nice enough to let me borrow some wheels. One of these days I will get around to getting some street wheels, tires, suspension......
