Went with Paul from ECS to Bishop Tuning in CT today to get rid of my knock and squeeze a bit more power out of my car. I wasn't disappointed with the results!

Max HP: 306 HP @ 6250 RPM and 19psi
Max TQ: 275 lbft @ 5100 RPM

Pre-tune trace, note the trough from the knock @ 4500 RPM

After about 6-7 pulls and Paul's expertise, the final trace

Here's the AFR trace

Power Mods:
-JDM Version 7 STi motorset
-IHI VF34 turbo
-Perrin Inlet tube
-TurboXS intake/MAF adapter
-HKS catless downpipe
-HKS 3" Hi-Power Exhuast
-(I forget the name) manual boost control

Needless to say, the car now hauls ass.

If this is bowling, I would have done the impossible

if you dont mind me asking about how much $ have you spent on the engine itself as well as power mods?

This is just from memory (i've been buying stuff for this swap for over 2 years now)

Here's the breakdown:

Parts:
-Ver 7 STi engine w/ crossmember - 2900
-STi intercooler - 100
-WRX Wiring Harness - 300
-ACT Street Clutch - 450
-Power steering fluid lines - 50
-Intake+inlet tube - 150
-HKS Downpipe - 120
-HKS CBE - 280
-AVCS wiring kit - 150
-O2 sensors - 100
-WRX wagon FSB - 50
-Walbro 255lph fuel pump - 100
-WRX MAF - 50
-Power steering fluid reservoir - 15
-Manual boost controller - 90
-misc parts/lines - 50

Total - 4955:eek:

Labor:
ECS full swap including all AVCS labor+base tune (less RS25 discount) - ~2600 (your cost will vary ;))
ECS Protune by Paul - 399

All in all, it's not the cheapest build ever. But the engine is unique, and it puts down the power very well. Boost hits very early and stays there. The other facet of this is potential. Paul says the engine will hold about 380 to the wheels with stock head bolts and head gasket. With upgraded head gasket and head studs, it can go over 450 whp. This initial setup is only the beginning.

Well mine would be around 400 too if I hadn't itemized it and stuff, haha. I gotta say, the 8k redline really is this engine's party piece. Nothing sounds meaner than a boxer engine at 8000 RPM.

yeah....im thinking of doing some headwork to let me spin mine faster.....but im worried about my block.....i built it and i have zero confidence in my block building ability...lol...

but i do have a spare RS block sitting in my basement....im thinking about building that one with some forged internals...

ahahah me too:noes:.....wanna take bets on who breaks theirs first?

u thinking about mfactory gears? maybe we should organize a group buy?
MFactory or PPG when I eventually go for big power. I will probably just be doing a ver 1 or 2 WRX/STi tranny in the near future.

To be honest, I really don't think I'm gonna I'm gonna break mine. Firstly, it's 2.0, and I've picked up good shifting technique over the years. I also think I've matured enough over the years that I have the where-with-all to not lose my head and slam a shift.

That being said, I would really like to swap the RS tranny out soon just for peace of mind, and because of the fact that my synchros are getting a little tired.
