I just want to know how many RS-T's out there are still on their stock trannies and/or clutch. If you could also include your turbo setup, how much boost you're pushing, 1/4 mi times or any other things you don't mind sharing, I'd appreciate that.

If you've upgaded your trannies, did you break the stock ones? If so, how did it happen?

thanks, guys

cool, keep it comin, guys! Now I'm worried if i go turbo, i won't be able to have as much fun with my car if i wanna take it to the autoX or try to launch it :( Do you guys think it's worth it to boost your ej25's? Just want to know the tradeoff's, cuz I really like autocrossing, and if i can't do that with my stock tranny, what can i do? :)

Stock tranny with ACT Street Clutch. I've had mine for around six months now, and no problems. However, even N/A, I still take it pretty easy on my tranny. I also do a lot of autocrossing, and I imagine I will continue to do this when my turbo goes in (week and half!), just have to really cut back on the hard shifts, and take a breath before I select a new gear :D, as Mike Shields would say.

I'm not there yet, so to tell you if a turbo'd RS is worth I would be lying.

I accidently voted wrong. My clutch is actually stock. Slips a little, but I'd rather have the clutch slipping than popping my gears. Read some of the articles on Autospeed.com and you'll see a 12 second WRX that once replaced the stock clutch, soon had to replace many trannies.

As for "is it worth it?" Even a simple 5-6psi kit makes the car drive like it should have from the factory. This is a level high enough for fun, yet low enough that major modifications are not necessary. My 1.8L with a turbo can walk away from a Mustang GT. There's no way that would happen stock. I had an opportunity to drive a stock 1.8L and with all due respect, I don't miss being n/a AT ALL. That thing was super slow with a 0-60 around 10 seconds or so.

i can believe that w/ FI these cars will have much more high end, but what about autocrossing? I love autoXing more than high speed driving (for now at least) -- and for those of you who autoX, it's mostly done in 2nd gear -- which i hear is usually the first to go in turbo impreza trannies. Any of you autoX your rs-t's w/ stock trannies? Could i just maybe turn down the boost well below 5 psi so i don't put too much torque through the tranny?

Legacy turbo @5psi (most times)

Stock clutch and tranny. Got about 7-8k turbo miles.

Auto-x and rally-x both.

Clutch slips a little when it is real cold out (I'm guessing extra power) and if you nail it in 5th.

So far so good on the gears.

Chad -- so i take it your 1.8 tranny is OK even with the additional power, provided you let the clutch take the brunt of the damage?

My tranny is fine other than some bad syncros in second. I'm on the second clutch and it's about due for a replacement. For the next clutch, I'll try a bigger flywheel designed for an RS and a stock RS clutch. The current clutch has lasted about 40,000 miles and though it does slip some, it's been good to me.
