Umm... actually... it turns out that a lot of c/f hoods actually weigh more than aluminum ones. Plus they cost more. What I would do is get in touch w/ someone who's getting a c/f hood for their WRX... and buy their stock aluminum hood.

Nice hoods! But I would want a nice understated black hood with no markings myself.

So the WRX hoods are lighter than the RS ones? How much more so? Would it really make any difference? As I said, I'm pretty new to cars so I don't know too much.. yet....

Well... those c/f hoods don't come prepainted. And they won't have the vinyl tags on them.

As for the weight difference... it's VERY significant. When you get some time, swing over to your nearest dealership and just lift the WRX hood. It'll blow your mind. I don't know the actual weight figures on the two. But my arm scale says it's a BIG difference.

It's true though. With an aluminum hood, the material doesn't have to be as thick. It is built more as a hollow frame setup.

With composite materials, you need more material to make it stronger and more rigid. And most "carbon fibre" parts are fiberglass parts w/ a carbon fibre candy coating. That adds to the weight a li'l as well. I'm not sure how the hoods on that group buy will be laid, nor what materials will be used. But all in all, there's a very high chance they will weigh more than the aluminum ones.

Hi! Sounds fun... Right now I'm still in paranoid-hurt-my-new-car phase and I freak out if there's some dust flying through the air (like last weekend!) but I'm sure I'll eventually look into that stuff.. sounds like fun tho!

Step one for you then is to get a set of mudflaps. They will protect you from throwing stuff against your precious paint.

Me, I made sure I got some good flaps before I really went offroad.

Hey now. I live in the wonderful world of New Jersey.

We don't have the desert, but we do have the Pine Barrens. Going on a Pine Barrens Run on Sunday. Should be fun. Okay... imagine this... driving through the woods really fast on sand! It's really sweet there! 'cept for the Pineys. Who are an interesting breed of ******* that lives in the Pine Barrens. They are known for firebombing cars. :flame: Anyways... it's always a good time in the Pines.
