How would a stock 2000 2.5RS do against a stock GTI in 0-60 and/or corners? It seems like they would be close on 0-60 because the 2.5RS has 165hp 166ft./lbs trq weighing 2800 lbs and the GTI has 176hp 181ft/lbs trq weighing 3000 lbs. Has anyone raced a GTI?

car and Driver did do a comparison, along with other sport compact cars. The GTi outran the RS to 60 and the 1/4 time. I dont remember much, but those bastaads underrated our car so much.

your best bet is to hope you are racing a 4 cylinder GTI and not a VR6 because unless you have some descent mods, he will win in the long run.

but you will be able to out handle (depending on tires) and should be able to win to 60 unless they are chipped or supercharged.

it doesn't take much to get them fast.

I used to drive a 2.0 L MY2000 Golf and that thing wasn't too fast (especially after I totalled it :( ). If, on the other hand, you have the 1.8T, one of the most tunable engines in the country, the ability to find lots of speed is not that difficult. There are kits out there that run about $2000 and you get an uprated turbo (KO4 I think) larger injectors, new uppipe, and a chip. That right there puts the engine around 220-230 HP. Like I said, easy to make fast.

As far as an RS a VR6 or 1.8T stock vs. stock? Well, not sure, but i think both were rated around 7.2-7.4 0-60 MPH.

My buddy has a VR6 and he beats me by a fair amount everytime we race. We race from lights and just get next to each other and take off. He pulls from me every time. He has a K&N filter and a chip. I have an intake and catback exhaust.

the VR6's are quick little buggers. easily outrun an RS. have really good highend acceleratoin they, trap at over 90mph bonestock......the RS rarely traps over 85mph stock.

I think if the rs came from the factory with a flywheel that was under 300 lb it would be a good race! the new dub's have traction control and the 1.8t buildes full boost vary low in the rev range with some bolt on's. :boxer:

yes you are lighter! and the horspower? vw rates the 1.8t only @ 150, but that i not the case. i have seen gti run around 140hp @ the wheels on my friends dyno with a drop in filter. the vr6 is a fast car off the line! and revs faster in my opinion! but we all know it really comes down to the driver. i do agree with you about the 2000 dubs and newer, thay are crap. i had an A2 with a g60 swap for a couple of years that car was alot of fun. the traction control on the 2001 and up share the same units as the audi's and if they can do it for bently and lamborghini, vw is doing somthing rght! :)

So what is it about the 2001 GTI that makes it faster than the new 2.5RS's. Gearing Ratios?! Does the GTI get more power to the wheels?!
a stock RS dynos ~128hp and ~138 lbs-ft of torque to the wheels

a stock GTi Vr6 dynos around ~155hp and ~165 lbs-ft to the wheels

and the Vr6's power does not just die at about ~5500rpms, like the RS's does, the VR6 pulls pretty damn hard straight to its 6500rpm rev limit. aand the GTi is geared well for highend acceleration where as the RS is geared well to get to about 50mph from a stop quickly.

and the GTi doesnt weight much more than a 100 lbs more than the RS.

advantage......GTi by a good margin.

My friend has a VR6 GTi and he has some normal mods and an ecu upgrade. I destroy him at the launch and he cant catch up till i shift into 5th but he still does not pull hard. Dont wory about them.
