well, here is what insomnia inspired. i couldn't sleep one night so i got to thinking what an impreza would have looked like as a GrB car. i know the drawing is kind of crude, but here it is. its obviously basically a combination of two cars, but there are 3 others that have influenced aspects of the drawing. who can name all five?!?! porter, i'm looking in your direction ;) oh, and speacial thanks to STiShawn for his artistic advice.

Nice concept. Only thing i would change, the rear fender vents. Group B was all about being purpose built... unless this was going to be a mid-mounted engine. :) ...in which case the hood scoopie would be gone.

the rear fender vents are for the brakes. look at the quattro s1, it was where i got the idea (for quite a bit, actually ;) ) and that was a front mounted engine. at first i thought about trying to make it a mid engine kind of car, but then, like you said, the "subaru power bulge" would have to go and there is just no way to "realisticly" put an engine in the backseat and still have the chassis resemble the impreza we all know and love.

Let's see....

Rear side vents / Fender flares : Obviously Audi Quattro

Rear end shape and front fender curve: Rothmans Porsche 959 GrB

Upswept front wing blending into fender flare: MG Metro 6R4

Rear Wing: Peugeot 405T16 Pikes Peak

The rest looks like Subaru 555 WRC except for the hood heat vent, the shape of that reminds me of a Lancer or Citroen BX4TC.

How did I do??

how did you do, porter? not too well. i'm quite disappointed :( you got the two obvious ones, namely the audi quattro s1 (both rear fenders and front fenders + air dam) and the GC8 WRC impreza. however, the other ones are wrong. the rear end was modeled after the impreza, however i do agree with you that it is 959-esk. if the wing was from the PP 405 T16, it would be *alot* bigger  RMCracing is on the right track, though. it is based on a GT car (as is another part of the car), but no viper. its going to be really hard to guess so i'll give you a hint. the car won its first race of this season :biggest: also, take a close look at the hood vent. its from another GrB car (but which one?!?!) also, there is a part on there from a non-WRC impreza :) rekindle my faith in you, Porter!

Well, now that I look at the hood vent again, It's obviously Peugeot 205T16 GrB... I'm not sure how I missed that the first time through. I was confusing the hood in my mind with the Citroen, which didn't have a vent there. Silly Porter!

The wing is obviously stolen from the TeamSMR car... as are the side skirts. They're Kartboy designed, actually. I figured all the cars being imitated were GroupB so I stuck with those for my influence guesses.

My MG Metro guess on the front wing was way off, too... it's just the one that I think of when I think of huge front wings. Now that I look at it again, it's obviously Audi Quattro...:

2 More things... your windshield wipers are backward.

And that appears to be a strange mix of the the bumpers from the Electra STi and the 22B. :) The way it curves forward at the bottom is very Electra, as are the brake ducts. The foglights could be the 22b from the way they're placed, but they don't have the semi-triangular cutouts.

geez porter! time to stop sniffing glue! you are still way wrong. there is no frog influnce in my drawing :) guess again. lucky for you there aren't too many group b cars to go through :p

your wing guess is also wrong ( i didn't know that USTCC had even had an event yet). its not a wing off of a subaru. if you figure out the other part of the car that came from the same place as the wing, it might help (if you get close enough i'll tell you since it is pretty obscure). of course, its not spot on, i did modify it to work with the rest of the car and have that "we don't know much about areodynamics" group B styling. the front bumper/fender meeting, brake ducts, and fog lamps were of my own concoction, although they are based loosely on the 22b style WRC car, fitted within the framework of the audi quattro. btw, that's the very pic i used :)

Well, you were probably thinking of the RS200, but let me show you how much more like the Peugeot 205t16 you really are!

It's amazing how close the vent is to your above design. :D :D :D :D
