You can bolt it up using the L's flexplate and torque converter, no problem. Would be VERY nice to see how long it would hold up. FWD would be totally beastly as long as the front axles could hold it. And you'd need to splice the 2.5turbo's engine harness and ecu into your L electronics. Not sure if it has the immobilizer stuff or how that would be wired in.
My 95L was originally fwd, btw. I believe it wasn't an option after 95
