Hey guys,

So I'm swapping a 1999 WRX STI Type R drivetrain into my 2.5RS. I have the engine apart and I'm trying to find out if I can replace the Cam and Crank sensors with North American parts. I know this drivetrain is OBD1 vs the 2.5RS's OBD2 wiring, does that make a difference? I'm certainly no electrical genius.

I went by my local Subaru dealership today and compared part numbers with the North American numbers and the one that seems to be the closest was part nuber 22053AA053, here's a pic of the two Crankshaft sensors. The brown coloured one is the JDM version where the Black one is for a North American Wrx I believe.

They look identical but will the new one function correctly if installed.

Cheers

The crank and cam sensor are identical, they are both performing the same function. I have swapped them and no difference.
