I think it so if you put piston in upside down you don't #&#$ your valves, they are different sizes, but then i could be on crack.
I doubt that.... If someone puts the pistons in backwards, they don't care if there is damage as a result....it would be assembly error.

As I think about it....it may be to allow for clearance when doing timing belt service....but I'm not totally sure on that either.
