Cost. DOHC can yield better results since you can alter both intake and exhaust. SOHC is more simplified and weighs less. Too many other factors go into the new Subaru engines other than heads to consider them superior.

The new rex and sti don't have DOHC. It must have been for a reason.

Actually both the WRX and STi have always been DOHC and still are.

Now about switching a SOHC to a DOHC. Do you plan on going turbo? What kind of power are you looking for?

I would almost think a full swap would be easier and if your just looking for a bit more on the top end a good port and polish should help there.

haha thanks guys. i am just getting an engine to replace my blown block. and the one im getting comes with dohc. so i think i am just going to port my heads. anyone know who will rebuild my heads with better cams, and ported? for sohc. this turned out to be an interesting thread. lol

So everyone assumed you meant wrx heads. But now it sounds like you have 98RS heads? Assuming since you are replacing your block with this one. Either way if you just want to get it back on the road then stick with your stock heads.

Call up Delta if you want some work done to the stock heads.
