DIY REQUEST: Charcoal Canister Delete

So the connector busted off the charcoal canister a while ago and everytime I fill up and every now and then I smell gas. Its getting annoying so I would like to just delete it. Only because I cant find replacement parts just like this...

here was my original thread about the problem...

I dont have to do any testing where I live, so will there be any downsides to this?

I deleted mine. Only downside would be CEL and a BITCH to fill up on gas. I mean, literally, it's a bitch to fill up.

Only reason I deleted mine was because I can something over and the bracket/mount for the box broke off and it was dragging on the ground. The plug and everything else was still intact and working. When I get back to the states I'm probably just going to find another box and put it back on. Having it deleted just isn't worth it.
^ whys it a bitch to fill up?
the pump prolly keeps stopping itself

bigshizzle got it dead on.

The pump will stop at every 30cents. So you'd have to pump 30cents, wait 3-4 seconds, then pump another 30cents and so on. The less seconds you wait, the less amount of cents it'd pump.
This may cause engine problems though. Im sure you know that this canister is part of your EVAP system. The canister is suppose to catch fuel vapors and purge them into the engine. The ECU is expecting this purge and if no purge then your engine isnt going to be running 'right.' Its also possible that your causing the volatility of the fuel to change which can cause driveability issues. The gas smell is vapors escaping from the tank which accounts for 20% of emissions gases, although you dont seem too concerned by that. Also keep in mind their is a pressure sensor, your level sensor, and various other sensors/check balls designed to save your ass in incident of an accident, so consider this.
So your local dealer doesn't have a parts department? Cuz if they did, I bet they could get you replacement parts.
orr do like me mod your trunk to a areomotive a1000 pump and a fuel cell :)

So this is what happened to me today. Don't ask me how it happened but I wasn't thinking.

Here is where I kinda rigged it up a bit for now.

Should I be worried about this temporary fix. Probably so.

I was more like :unamused: and then  when it happened.
sucks you gotta get that whole plastic panel thing to fix it.. watch for someone parting out?
Funny this thread was brought back.

I got tired of the hassle with filling up with the charcoal deleted so I actually bought myself another one and threw it back on. Best decision ever.

I have issues filling up (stopping all the time) with my original canister still on there. Please tell me where you got your new one so i can replace mine!
Here's a hint though: Just connecting the vacuum lines from the engine bay and the gas tank will not do what you think it will. It'll work, and you wont have a CEL and wont have a charcoal canister in the system anymore.

However, you will be sucking straight gas through the line every time you hammer it turning right, which causes a stumble as the engine goes pig rich. Took me years to figure out why my car was stumbling while turning.

Also I though the tank vented while filling from the tube that ran up the side of the filler neck. We had a recall at toyota because that vent tube would rust shut and you couldn't put gas in them anymore.
Ok, so I want to put a twin exhaust on, and that canister is in the way... what are the suggestions for a valid fix without causing the refuelling and 'pig rich' (my new favourite term)? Surely people have run twin exhausts before?
what the hell is a charcoal canister? my car don't have this

yes what are my options? I am not running dual exhaust but

something like this :D

@Focus, a charcoal canister is a device meant to prevent the fuel in your tank from evaporating into the atmosphere and cause greenhouse gasses. On earlier scoobies it's under the hood, later ones it's a little behind the right rear wheel.

As to the "how do I move it" I'd suggest some long vacuum hoses, extending the wiring harness, and making up a mount to put it somewhere it fits.

If you want to remove it completely, you'll get a CEL. There are solenoids and a pressure sensor that let the car know if the system is working properly. So, even if you leave the sensors connected, when it doesn't see the proper pressure change from opening and closing the solenoid, it'll turn on the CEL.
So my question now is, has anyone moved this to a successful new location?
