I'm new to the Subaru scene and I'm a lot confused by the different refences on here. The engines are easy as are the SOHC, DOHC and other cross manufacturer terms. I'm just haveing problems figuring out what everyone talking about when they say somenthing along the lines of 22b, GC8, etc. is there somesite out there that I can find out what's what?

I've got a '90 Legacy L+ with the 2.2 4cyl, 5 speed, and AWD. I'd like to be able to mod it out a little but I'm haveing some trouble following what could work with mine and what won't do to the models. I need to learn so I can accually try to add some to the club. Thanks for the time.

If you want to get technical, our VIN's have GM6 as our chassis code. GC8 is the same looking body, but it's a turbocharged WRX released elsewhere. We just all call it GC8 tho.

ok that helped some. I'm gathering from just looking at pics of both cars side by side that most of the mods as far as looks are cross platform, ie, the trademark hoodscoop and heat vents over the wheel wells on the hood. any of the engine mods should be able to work with a little elbow greese and some imagination. heh I guess I'm back to stage one like I was with my Taurus :D

You can do just about anything to your 2.2 Legacy that you can do to a 2.5RS. Most of the engine bits will bolt right up.

Suspensions will work too, with some minor modifications. Actually, suspensions for the new WRX should bolt up to your Legacy perfectly. They do for the body style that followed yours and the new redesign, and I'm pretty sure they haven't changed the suspension geometry since the Legacy was introduced. Front sway bars should be interchangeable, while the rear is specific to the Legacy due to the larger spare tire well.
