Alright, so I was autocrossing this weekend and had my hood up a lot to cool the engine (what?! the turbo guys were doing it and I felt left out ) and was poking around between runs once, and I found my block code.
EJ25.
I pulled over my friends, and was like, "Uh guys, I think I have an EJ25 block, not an EJ23 block." They were just as shocked as I was.
So my question is this: Is the EJ23 an EJ25 block with different internals? Or do I pretty much have an EJ25 minus the turbo and piping?
Hmmm... I think there might be a little EJxx confusion here.
The turbo guys (wrx/sti) should be equipped (year dependent) with EJ205,EJ255 and EJ257 motors.
I think your EJ25 is infact a EJ253. The NA version of the EJ series engines. I think my 2000 EJ25 is an EJ251 if memory serves.
Any EJ experts care to chime in on my half-baked theory?
What Skidd said is right, EJ is the series (read: every impreza engine) and the next two digits are the displacement. The next digit is the particular variant, which people often leave out.
but yea, an EJ23 would be a 2.3l motor....which subaru doesn't make. the tag on your driver's side strut tower will have the full engine code.
