I looked at my Stromung muffler and saw this:

It's only about 2 years old this sucks! Now I have to look for a replacement. I suppose I could get the SS one, when I got mine there weren't any of the SS Stromungs avalaible.

Alright.. That decides it..

It's either Stromung SS (I was considering the Milled Dual Tip) or Brullen for me :)
Who else makes a Dual tip? Anyone have any pics or links?
i have one for about a year now, is there anything i can do to avoid this? no signs of it yet....
Im in the same boat as Peaty,2 yrs old, didnt have stainless when i ordered.Oh well love the sound and look.Probably buy a stainless one in the future. So the moral of the story is dont go cheap on the exhaust, mild steel =not so mild rust.
I couldn't remember exactly but I didn't think they had SS when I ordered mine. I too love the sound, I managed to get a slightly used duel tipped SS Stromung and should have it next week I hope.

I don't think there is any way to avoid it rusting out though. It's too bad that's for sure
I noticed mine is getting pritty bad also, I want the new sti muffler for the wrx.
I've got the SS, but its not all its cracked up to be---literally!!

About two months ago, the seam on the top of the muffler/canister split open! The weld seemed to just disappear. Fortunately it cost $40 to fix at a muffler shop.

Also note that I do not live in a 4 season's climate. There's a little brown area, but I think its from the ocean air.
i just realized mine is stainless steel..haha imadork...:stinky:
From what I understand, the Brullen is made from a higher grade stainless than the Stromung (comparing the SS systems) and is far less prone to rust or discolor. The SS Stromung will rust eventually too because it's low grade stainless... it will take a LONG time to start rusting though.
Hey Guys,
I have sold Stromungs for about 3 years now and here is a tip fer ya.
Clean the surface that has the rust starting then use black gas grille (BBQ Grille) paint on the area .Its flat black and will last for years.
Regular paint will burn off but this wont.
Needless to say this is not to be used on the stainless steel.
