Hey Guys,
My 99 RS is running on a check engine light. I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic last night on my way to the Air Force/Notre Dame game, and about 45 mins into the drive the car throws a check engine light.
How do I go about checking the engine code to locate the problem?
The car runs fine and everything checks out mechanically.

IIRC Autozone will check/clear codes for free. Or you could take it to a garage and im sure they would have an obd2 reader.

Somebody told me you could turn the ignition on and off four times and the check engine light will flash a sequence relating to a code number.
Is that true?

No that's only with the old OBDI systems I think not the newer ones. You need a scanner to read them.

Thanks guys. There are a bunch of scanners on eBay for around $50. Sounds like a good investment.
Oh, and if you all decice to go buy one there, don't bid against scca01

SCCA01, first off... Go Falcons! Secondly, my 99 has had an evap emmissions code for the past two years, then (recently) the heater hire failed on my rear O2 sensor. I'm a cheap bastard and used a Bosch universal 4-wire and haven't had a single CEL since.
