i just got a 1999 sti ver5 ra. which has the dccd.

i have a spare gearbox laying around with ppg gears in it, so i am wondering if i swap the gearboxes would i still get dccd function? and if i dont will the car be locked in 65/35 at all times?

The tail section and center diff are what make dccd. All you have to do is swap on the dccd tail section.

as long as both are phase 2 transmissions you could theoretically swap the DCCD tail section onto the other gearbox. or swap your PPG gears into the DCCD case, either way they would have to both be phase 2 transmissions

What year did the phase2 transmissions start from?

generally speaking, production year 98, model year 99

all you have to do is look at your transmission or engine and see if there are 4 bolt/connection points (phase 1) or 8 points (phase 2)
