I just took my 2.5 in to have the knocking noise checked out. They said that they think it was the Cam Idler Tension Pulley and they would have to order the part. The guy at the desk said that the tech wanted to check everything out to be sure that the engine didn't have other problems and that it would take all day. I just hope that they aren't trying to set me up for the "Well sir, you modified your car and we believe that caused your problems, there for..."

I know a few of you ...Peaty...have had this problem. Does it take all day to fix it? My only mods are a GanzFlo Intake/Air Filter, and N1 lightweight Pulley set. Nothing was said about the mods and the noise existed before the mods.

Well one time at band camp... Oh wait...wrong story.

I had to replace the timing belt on my wife's 2.2L 1990 Legacy and it took about 4.5 hours just because I had never done it before. Replacing the tensioner would have probably added another .5 to 1 hour to my time. When I replace my belt this year I will definitely replace the tensioner. Hopefully it will only take me 2 to 3 hours this time around.

I just got back from an all night test run at work but if you remind me with an e-mail direct I can look at my reciept and see how long they said it took. They had my car all day but as for hours of work I'm not sure. FWIW I left all my mods on but the front skid plate. My dealer is mod friendly. I was told that they really didn't care what I had done but if it involved removing something that they wouldn't normally have to do in the course of the repair; they would have to charge me for the extra time it took. I thought that was fair. I had an underdrive pulley but they have to remove that anyway.

I have posted a million times i think about my cars knocking sound.... But can you describe what your was like... front, rear of engine...Only when its cold...under acceleration or load?....because mine is making a terrible knocking noise mostly when cold from the rear left side of the engine....and im bringing it in on the 25th i would be interested to see if your prob is similar to mine.
