I'm kinda worried now about my 4EAT. While parking in my garage after a short drive, I shifted from D thru P. When it rested in P, the auto-transmission made a 1 sec soft buzzing noise. I then shifted through the gears and then into P several times, still hearing this buzzing noise.

Please would someone tell me if there is a problem with my 4EAT. Besides this buzzing noise which I never noticed before, it's been working fine. I checked the Tranny Oil and it was in okay level.

I ocassionally get a buzzing noise in my 4EAT - when I am sitting still it's very noticible. However, I've had no problems with it so I am ignoring it at this point. I have no idea what it is - but I think it comes from the back of my car, so I am wondering if it's the fuel pump kicking in or something???

I should probably take it to the dealer before my warranty expires in 1000 miles!

I remember this problem from a year ago or so I think. I don't remember exactly what it was but it did have something to do with fuel system and was not an issue. Sorry I can't remember more. I am a 4EAT owner too by the way.

I hear an electronic kind of "buzz" when my car is still and i put it on D, 3, 2, 1, and i think also R. I can especially hear it if my engine is not on and i try to shift it. I can also hear my gears change, takes like 1 sec after i change gears, in my tranny. I think my reverse is louder now. i can hear a "tthhhhhhhok!" or "click!" when it gets into gear. lately it got louder than usual or either i just notice it a lot more. everything works fine still.

Okay...I guess this can't be a serious issue. Because today...I tried replicating the buzzing and couldn't do it. It makes sense for it to be the fuel pump or something...because the buzzing is coming from the back and not from the tranny itself. OH well...if it ain't broke...yada yada yada.

i know this is an old thread, but i figured for the sake of reference i would post. i have had this same problem with my 4eat and i can say im not sure what it is, but i think that its related to the locking mechanism on the shifter. i just had my water pump replaced 4,000 miles ago and i still have that noise so i think we can cancel the water pump idea.

My 02 RS 4eat makes the same buzzing noise only when the car is in gear and you are holding the brake. The buzzing goes away when in park, neutral, or actually driving. Its been making this noise since Ive had the car, and the transmission shifts fine and works well. I believe this is the hydraulic pump for the transmission buidling pressure causing the noise. Just a guess. Ive done a few drain and refills, replaced the filter, and have never noticed any difference with the buzzing sound, still there, and not any more quiet or louder. Ive had the car for about 4 years now, and have come to ignore the buzz. The only time I really can notice it is when Im at the drive-thru next to a wall. I will say that my 95 Impreza L with the same transmission did not have the buzzing sound.
