Like the title says I was curious if there are any advantages to going up to the 5x114.3 bolt pattern? Seems like most of the rally wheels are 5x100 at least from one instagram that I follow.

5x114.3 is going to give you more wheel options, as 5x100 is only used by a few manufacturers. However, 5x100 is probably used for more rally wheel setups, as they are typically smaller diameters (14,15,16), as opposed to the 114.3's which are typically larger diameter wheels (16,17,18). The rally wheel setups are a balance between large enough diameter to fit large brakes and small enough diameter to allow for more tire sidewall.

Weather or not it's worthwhile taking the time and spending the money depends on what your goals are, and how much it's worth it to you.

5x100 is more popular among consumer cars and you can get really cheap used wheels from several manufacturers that will fit your car. I always go 5x100 when I can, have yet to see a compelling argument to make the switch.

The wheel bearings for the 2005+ STI 5x114 hubs are bolt in instead of press in, imo that's a huge plus. I've heard they last longer as well, but no personal experience.

Thanks for the comments guys, I am intending to do some rally cross events in my car so it looks like I will stick with the 5x100 pattern when I get the funds for the sti swap I have planned!
