has any body had any problems with the amzoil air filter? i think i have traced hesitation problem between 3400 and 4000 rpm(feels like the ecu is pulling timing there) to the filter . iam going to put the stock filter back in again and see if itsmooths out one more time. i also have the gasket in the 'big air box' so i have experiment there as well. hopefully some one out there can save me a lot of time and tell what will work the bestin my99s???? :(

Well it's not filter-specific. IIRC my '01 had that hesitation with the K&N, and it's got it now with a Cobb/PRM filter too. I think it had it with the stock filter, but that was so long ago I can't recall. It's too much work to go back to stock just to check so I'm not going to bother, besides, it pulls HARD everywhere else and is a bit faster. I'm going to stick it on a dyno in a couple of weeks to check it out. :)

Weather changes probably. The Cobb shouldn't hesitate in that range, mine pulls all the way to red. It had the usual lag at 3k rpm with the stock filter...

All I know is that my car feels like it's got variable timing, with a switchover at around 3400rpms. It pulls pretty well until then, then it lunges and pulls hard from then to the fuel cutoff. Almost like turbo lag.

That little hesitation is normal with the 2.5, at least in 00-01 models. Maybe it has something to do with the MAP sensor? I don't know if the 98-99 have the same hesitation or not. It was there with the stock intake setup, and I have the GanzFlow w/ K&N drop-in filter, and it is still there, but it's not very noticable at WOT, but is noticable at partial throttle.
