The A/C on my wife's bugeye died, so I put in a new compressor. I took it to a shop to have it cleaned and charged after I did the install. They cleaned the system, but as they went to charge it, they found out the compressor had a leak. After some grumbling and a few phone calls I've replaced the compressor a second time.

My question is...

Since they've cleaned the system already, could I just charge it with one of those cans you can pick up at autozone or should I go back into the shop and have them clean it again?

You need to have a shop pull the system into a vacuum before it's charged. If you just pump in refer. on top of the air that's in there, it's still not going to be cold.

Ugh...That sucks.

Another 200 bucks that won't be going toward my car.

yes, the system must be vacuumed to remove any moisture from the air in the lines.

and moisture will corrode the lines from the inside = buying a new AC system

make sure they add any needed oil/dye
