FINALLY!!!!
Can’t believe how long it has taken to find a reasonably priced td04.
Very cool and seriously!
I remember people would list their low mileage TD04’s left and right for $100. Too bad I wasn’t swapped back then or I would've grabbed one.

No kidding! I've seen used TD04's going for $350! The market definitely shifted quite drastically for them.

My back is STILL feeling it from boxing up my harnesses last weekend. It’s crazy how heavy they are. The dog’s approval made it all worth it. Or maybe it was the treats for the iWire shop dog. Oh well. She’ll love riding in it when it’s done.

Glad to have it all boxed up and on its way to iWire. My wife recently ordered a saddle, so that box was perfect for the harnesses. Should be there any day now to get into line. The end is so much closer!!!

Sooo been a minute. Anybody see my big oopsie on iwire’s story?
84985

tried to be nice and it bit me in the ass a little bit. About 2 weeks into my wait for the harness! Been telling myself at least 6 so that the wait isn’t too dreadful.

I finally got those 17” Team Dynamic wheels mounted and balanced on the firestone firehawks my WRX came on. Pretty stiff tires, but very happy with the fit. Excited to put them on the coupe.. maybe tomorrow??

Seibon carbon fiber RB5 spoiler FTW!
I said from the beginning if I did choose to have a tall spoiler on the coupe, it would only be a V5. Of course an authentic being up to 2k made the idea escape my mind. Then this turned up and boom, it all worked out. I’m either going to fully paint-match or leave some carbon showing. We shall see.

Well after much sleepless reading and reading and messaging with @mike-tracy we were able to teach me why and how the suspension is as tricky as it is when swapping these GM,GC,GF. I have 2005 wrx struts with rce blacks already from the donor. I really wanted to find a way to use this setup and it seemed like the only option WITHOUT slotting the car was 90-91 legacy rear tophats. Hopped on Subaru, discontinued. Amazon, same. Didn’t see any on eBay. Was getting ready to plan slotting with reinforcement when I got lucky stumbling on the one thread in here with part numbers. I got my legacy rear tophats as well as luckily finding the rear upper spring seats and I wanted to share both those sources here for anyone it can help.

All ordered and will be here this week. Here’s to hoping the right parts show up...

Overnight parts from..... the UK!

Found a real nice kid that was stockpiling a ton of gauge clusters in his garage. I had been wanting a 140 MPH cluster and saw some UK ones turning up here and there stateside for $200 or more. They were all whiteface 160mph clusters though and I really wanted a blackface 140mph, if it existed. Surely enough, he had one! He showed me all that he had and he also had a whiteface 160 one. For what he told me he wanted for just one, I opted to get both. I figure, eventually I will STI swap the coupe and then have a reason to mount up a 160, lol. Or sell it, we’ll see.

Now onto quote with G-rom to see if they can get the mileage to match the WRX that way I can keep track of this thing painlessly.

Update: per G-rom, these are not flashable, bummer.

Harness arrived in 6 days! Excellent service. I cannot wait for Rich to get this in and start buttoning it up! Just so everyone knows, if you decide to send your harness with beer, it takes 3 weeks instead. Or so, I’ve heard from somebody. Also, completely unrelated, but MY harness no longer smells like Yuengling, so that’s good. No idea how that happened.

The moment I have been super anxiously waiting for, has BEGUN!!!!

Day 1
As you can see, Rich started running the harness through the car

Day 2
Fine tuning the harness, transmission and shift linkage installed, as well as homemade gc-gd steering coupler

Day 3 and 4
The heart is IN!!!!!!

Peep that BRAND NEW power steering pump! Earlier in this thread is the situations surrounding how I came about the coupe and its donor. The donor had some flaws but ran and drove just fine. No power steering, oil line leak, and after close examination, it does need timing belt, pullies, water pump, few other odds and ends. Bummer, but at least this motor should be good for awhile! In EJ terms that means what? 3 months? Ha JK! Take care of it and it will take care of you!

Little update: I am deciding on a slightly different image for the car now. Instead of that hood with the oversized WRC vents and the RB5 spoiler I love so much, I’m going more subtle.

The RB5 went to a good home yesterday. Sold within just a couple hours too.

As for subtle, picked up a Craigslist cheapy color-matching OBS hood and hoping to pickup a coupe high-rise also color-matching. Also, not pictured I was able to source some round factory foglights for the L bumper. Super nice guy gave it to me with his USDM bumper support. Gotta love the community! No need for the support, but it has the brackets and fogs so I’m very happy to save that $100+ dollars. Also found someone with the factory fog covers too that he’s mailing me.

Now that all that enthusiasm and positivity is out there.. onto the doom and gloom. I’m really struggling with my suspension goal. I really want to use the 05 wrx struts, rce yellows, and the 91 Legacy rear tophats I picked up, but I’ve hit a snag. 20375AA011. I know some OGs are going to read that part number and be like just give up while you’re ahead. I’m too stubborn for that. These discontinued rear seats have been a real pain and so has all the suspension research that got me to them. I purchased one that has been sitting on ebay for quite sometime in the UK, however that won’t get here until at least Dec. 22nd. I do have a gentleman in Ukraine that THINKS he may have one sitting in his shed. I also have a couple sources looking into it and I will be looking in junkyards myself. If ANYONE has any lead on these rear upper spring seats for a first-gen legacy, PLEASE PLEASE help an enthusiast out. OR, if you’ve found anything similar that worked that is more readily available, that would be FANTASTIC. Thanks for reading guys!

GREAT junkyard pull today. Found the first gen legacy rear upper spring seats that are nearly impossible to find new.

That took longer than I care to admit, but then I got EXTREMELY lucky finding these b-c pillars that are mint! I only broke 1 tab on each side too!

All for a grand total of $26! Fuck that private coupe tax!

Tonight was the best night of 2020 so far! Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures, but tonight was very special. I made another parts run and just to square some things away with Rich and he surprised me in a big way. I got there and walked over toward the car and he hands me the key, opens the door to a milk crate sitting on the floor and says, “start her up!” I was ecstatic and in disbelief. He had mentioned making some seriously good timing on the car, but I didn’t think he was this far! I sat down and adjusted my crate to the proper distance from the pedals and with even less hesitation than my 16 camry takes, it fired RIGHT UP! Open downpipe never sounded so freaking good! The radiator is not connected yet and we were also using 87 octane from what I put in the 2.2 gas tank before hand so we only idled it a few seconds, but it was a GREAT few seconds! If it were possible, I am now even MORE excited than I ever was about this build!!!!!
