The 2.2 & it's electronics from the 98- Imprezas are different than those of the 99+. 99+ Imprezas will not run older EJ22s & likewise. You will have to get new cylinder heads or a whole new engine. You can also take the time to upgrade to an EJ25 from the Legacy of your year.

There's wiring merging, but no point in doing that, unless you know how to do it. If not, you'd end up paying $600+ just for the wire merge and whatever for the engine. No real cost savings of buying a busted engine L wagon.

How about the 2.2 block with Rs heads along with all 2.2 accessories?

Which ej22 block? Your ej222 block will be basically the same engine when you're done, but will need the ej25 exhaust manifold. If ej22e then you'll be running about 8.5:1 compression give or take a tenth. But will still run.
