The car: 1995 Subaru Impreza coupe. The goal: summit Pikes Peak international hillclimb in under 11 minutes.

I purchased the car for $800 from the second owner. This isn't my first gc, I've owned a few including a 98 Impreza RS that I swapped as well as a 93 GF wagon that had some work done. However this car will be the most extreme by a long shot. Plans for the car are a extremely lightweight chassis powered by a e85 drinking, twin scroll turbocharged engine spinning to 8,000 rpm putting power through a sequentially shifted 6 speed transmission and full slicks.

I jumped on the car when I saw it, I ended up getting it for around $800 and it was just what I was looking for, non abs, no power options, 2 door, and a clean shell to start with.

I drove the car as was for about 6 months before I had the garage space to begin tear down. First to go was the engine and transmission along with the rest of the driveline components



As you can see I cut the core support, made removal of everything much easier and allows for more space for cooling components that I will be using later.

Next began the long process of stripping every exterior and interior component, trimming any excess metal out (including the spare tire well) and chipping the sound deadening out.




With all of that out of the way I started removing the seam sealer, Subaru used a ton of it along every seam in the car, the trick to removing it is a flapper wheel and a torch. Here's an example in the passenger footwell area



Last thing on my to do list before fabrication was to trim the rear quarter panels for my 22b over fender kit



Then it was off to Godspeed Fabrication for the cage and metal work. Highly recommend Robb at Godspeed to anybody in the Tacoma/Seattle WA area for any metal fabrication work you may need.

Fabrication

The car is currently at Godspeed Fabrication getting work done, stopped by yesterday to check the progress, core support braces have been welded up and the front tire tubs have been finished!






Cage work starts this week, very excited to see the finished product :devil:

Progress is slow while the car is at the fab shop, here's a picture of where it sits:

Received great news today, Godspeed Fabrication will be the car's first sponsor. Couldn't be happier about this for a few reasons:

A) Robb at Godspeed does amazing work, I checked out a few shops in the area before deciding who to have build a cage that I plan on keeping me safe if the car were to roll 14,000ft up Pikes peak. Robb's work has been put through the test, most notably a 120mph multiple rollover in which his rollcage hadn't budged an inch despite the forces at play.

B) The car will be most entirely funded by myself, and like most of us that means stretching every dollar as far as possible without compromising quality. Robb's labor rate and pricing is beyond fair considering the quality of work and the pricing of his competition.

C) Godspeed fab is a group of good local guys with tons of collective knowledge, and that is exactly you want. And I plan on having plenty of custom parts fabricated.

Rolllcage begins

Dropped by the fabrication shop today to check on the progress, it's beginning to take shape, welding starts today then the cage will be dropped to weld around the top areas. This thing hugs so tight to the body!





The oem steering column mount welded to the front crossbar of the cage



Progress.. can't wait to get it back and lay down paint

That looks to be a really solid cage. It should do well in protecting you should any wreck/roll over happen
The guys building the cage (Godspeed fabrication) have been around for awhile and definitely know their stuff! In the unfortunate event I have to rely on it I'll be happy knowing Robb put it together.

Cage fabrication complete

The cage fabrication is now complete, Robb is finishing up building window frames to mount the front lexan windows and I have scheduled pickup for this friday! Excited to get the ball rolling on the rest of this project and my painter is already ready to get it in. Some pictures as teasers for now, full rollcage with nascar style door bars, front fender tubs, core support.. supports, rear 1/4 panels welded to body, rear aluminum bulkheads and various holes filled
