Here's my new project, OMG the box o wiring! Nice vf22 and the outside is in great shape. He included everything I would need but the labor. I'm going to pull the oil pan soon and check out the cranks to see if there's anything abnormal before putting it into the car. The wire merging will probably take a while without a garage. It surprised me seeing the maf being so large. I thought it was the same as my ej25, I was wrong. A few pics:

The ej25d and several other parts I currently have on my car also came from him. I need more hp and this should do the trick. Once I get it running and its doing well for about a month, I will be rebuilding my ej25 similar to skully's versions to have a spare shortblock.

dude me and you are like in the same step right now. Only mines a ej20g. All the wiring is very depressing to look at. But good luck and hopefully you dont have any problems along the way.

Its a real bummer to look at the wires. But just remember there are a few good subie guys out there that are working on the same thing and hoping your shit works out as well. I personally dont wish a crappy swap or blown motor on no one. #1 rule - Take your time and do it right.

The wiring will actually be easier for me, because I can do most of it inside and don't need to pay a shop or take it anywhere. The worst is going to be changing the headgaskets, oil pump, waterpump, intake gaskets and oil pan gasket. I'm hoping when I pull the headgaskets there won't be much residue on the engine so maybe I won't have to take it to a shop to get surfaced. I don't want any shop tampering with it if possible. I'm going to try and find metal headgaskets like on my ej25, don't want them leaking.

take this tip from me. be carefull when you put your interior back together. i did my swap. running all nice. drove it without any interior for a couple days. Put it all together and now i have 2 CELs and it's in limp mode.

and wiring trouble shooting sucks...

Be sure to document the wiring ;) I'll be doing the same swap in May :D

looks great.; hey, if you are looking to dress up the engine bay, i'd do it now. anything you want chromw or polished or painted should be done now while the engine is out and the wiring is still being worked on. trust me taking off everything, powdercoating it, degreasing it, all that jazz will make it look just that much better in the grand scheme of things.

I don't really care too much about how blingy it is, I think form follows function. But since I'll be pulling the manifold to change gaskets I may send it to get ceramic coated or just spritz it up with some high temp caliper paint if I'm feeling cheap. I may even do the valve covers, but that just depends on what I end up spending on parts, I need to be sure the engine is as prepped as possible. I want to give it the best chance at life as possible, lol. Especially with the bad reputation the jdm subaru engines are getting lately. I'm hoping to change the average in a good way. So far my ej25 has been superb and neither I or the previous owner have babied it.

starting the teardown

..pulled some of the engine apart today to check condition. I still need to pull the oil pan to get a look at the rods and mains. Here are a few pics:

I'm really hesitant on giving the heads to any local shops to clean up and adjust the valve lash. 1- they may take too much off and cause problems with compression 2- I seriously doubt they have ever done a valve job on any subaru head, much less a 20k set. I might have to send them off to someone who does it regularly. If the bottom end is tight and clean, I'll probably just clean the heck out of the piston area and the block and leave the beariings as they are. The engine has 43k, so IF it was treated decently, the bearings should be ok. The only other thing should be replacing all gaskets, seals and o-rings. Still haven't found a full engine gasket/o-ring set as of yet.
