More progress from today...

I'd say some of us were really productive today..

Some fruits of the labor... More kitty hair was applied and sanded down.

Time has come.. to cut the expensive roof skin.

Just draw an oval and cut !!!

Few deep breaths later.

And voila

Yup.. everything gets "shaved" even before it's installed..

The roof is so thick that the rubber trim doesnt fit !!!

Next up we decided to grow some mushrooms and put some kitty hair on the door sill.

Moar kitty hair on the rear quarter.. Some parts were really thin and chipped off.

And.. all i managed to do the whole day is sand and apply some more kitty hair!!!
Almost forgot.. welded up a plate to cover a hole from the seatbelt bolt.

Shaved the trunk...

And weld up the door switch holes.
As seen in a pic somewhere above..

For good night... some wall art from the garage.

I might put a helmet net back there...
Otherwise I cant think of anything else ???

Groceries ?

At one time I was thinking of making brackets for a child seat.. so my kids could ride with me from time to time..

Problem would be if a cop saw the kids seat surrounded by a cage..
I am sure quite a few would throw a fit for no reason.

No eye protection? Ballsy lol

Looks good! Interesting on the rear seat belt plates. I plan to use eye screws to have anchor points to hold stuff down if needed.

Another long day with some progress..

We start off with more sanding..

Followed by even more sanding...

Followed by dimple die testing...

Now.. finally we figured out a way to mount the roof vent rubber seal..

Looking decent from the bottom...

But... It doesnt close all the way down !!!
Will have to shim or bend the bracket.

On another very exciting note.. finally some bondo have showed up !!!!

Some more here...

More here...

Last not least ..here..

Also.. managed to clean and scuff the engine bay..

Probably the cleanest its been in 20 years !!!

Its 2016 and we are back...

Before I arrived to the garage.. the roof vent issue was being addressed...

Before I could even protest that the bracket is too heavy....

Yes.. yes.. its heavy.. but it will stiffen up the whole construction.

off to the grinder...

All bolted up.. not bad looking i'd say...

We decided to weld up the vent bracket, since we needed all the stiffness we could use.

Gap issue fixed!

Next we attacked the $64.99 floor plug issue.
Yes.. price is for each !!!!
A die was made and soon we pumped about 14 of those...

Did I say they are aluminum ???
Saved few hundred $$$ and weight as well !!!!

Next we decided to clean out the wheel wells..
We went from this...

To this...

Shaving about .5lb per side..
I'd say thats a win!!

The other side got its share as well..

All this dirt produced an urge for a selfie...
Probably my first one !!!

Last but not least.. the day was finished off by a gift from my best friend who really injected the idea of a custom built S5/22b replica.
On the good note.. he is now paying for it by building it.

Very impressive. Would love to do this to my RS and the aerosim kit was on the books. What size/type of garage are you doing all of this work in? Looking forward to the next batch of photos.
