And engine stopped "engining" is not a valid answer...

Oof, that is simultaneously unfortunate and incredibly frustrating. I'm assuming bent valves and nicked pistons?

No internal damage !!!
But engine needs to come out.. as one of my sleves started rusting and has cracks.

Is this sort of thing going to get more common as the stock non-metal cam gears are approaching/exceeding 20 years of age?

RCM released their alloy ones like months after I did my T-belt, but I'm still considering getting them as a preventative item.
