Thought l would start this build up thread seeing the car is in the workshop and should be complete within the next couple of weeks

l bought my Aus delivered Version 5 STi back in late 2005 for 31k, it had 40,000 kms on the clock, 1 owner in his 50's, and no accident damage. It was the perfect platform to begin modding.

After a few years of hard driving and training days the 8 year old components started showing there age, so l decided to do a complete drivetrain swap from a later model car

last year l came across a complete drivetrain from a 2006 Spec C Type RA , so l snapped it up and have been planning the build ever since

l finally have everything l need for the swap, car is down with Ben from Tougetune who will be doing the conversion

so what happens when you take this:



and put it in this:



Here is the Mod List off the top of my head:

Drivetrain:

2006 STi Spec C Type RA DCCD 6 Speed (41:59, hellical lsd, sti short throw gearing, close gear ratio box)
2006 STi Spec C Type RA R180 plated rear diff (3.54)
2006 STi Spec C Type RA 114.3 PCD Hubs and axles
2006 STi Spec C Type RA STi Rims - 17x8 114.3pcd with RE55's
Spec C H17 (2007) Brembo Fronts + pads and 114.3pcd discs
Spiider DCCDPro “Deluxe” (Auto/Manual mode, OEM switch + thumbwheel, Factory DCCD dash display)

Suspension:

Cusco Zero 2 R's for 05+ STi
DMS GC8 Front Adjustable Tophats
STi Pink Laterial Link Set (full pillow, rose joints)
STi Pink Trailing arms
STi Pink H/D swaybar mounts (spherical bearing)
Whiteline Anti Lift Kit (Race)
Whiteline underbody "H" brace
Whiteline H/D Front adjustable 24m swaybar
Whiteline Front Swaybar link kit (Spherical rod end)
Whiteline H/D Rear adjustable 27mm race swaybar
Whiteline H/D Rear 24mm mounts

are you kidding? thats crazy.

some people would kill for the v5 STi, but you go one step furthur and swap IT!

Last friday night we put the car on the stands and started pulling the rear end out

(Sorry about the phone pics, car is really dirty hasn't been driven for a while)



Hubs + Axles out



Rear diff out (was leaking pretty badly)



Comparison of 1999 STi R160 4.444 and 06 Spec C RA R180 3.54 plated



R180 was in great condition - Plated LSD



Hangers on R160 were longer so we put them on the R180





Fitting the R180 into the v5 STi subframe



Perfect Fit

sounds pretty nasty there.... im assuming you did the whole vented hood. ive never seen that before. i like it.
yeah l run a v-mount, l am swapping it with the PE v-mount

rose joints looks alot better than the bush joints on the stock gear





Tonight we will install the Rear suspension, rear brembos and 27mm whiteline race swaybar if the 24mm H/D mounts arrive in time

Car looks sick! The outcome with all those nice goodies in it will be amazing! Nice build indeed.

should be a very very quick car.....you need to also upgrade the steering rack also...;)...

thanks mate

l have a 13:1 quick rack :)

remember its a version 5 sti so has most of the goodies stock, alloy control arms, spherical front endlinks, v5 seats etcetc ontop of whats going in

Understand that..:)>.. but the SPec C rack has a Steering angle sensor to interact with the DCCD...and a larger cooling capacity than the Ver5 rack....plus..the SPec C is SOLIDLY mounted to the crossmember where the Ver5 Still relies on STeering Rack Bushings to mount the rack..:)

cool thanks for that l didn't know of those differences, l used to have a 13:1 spec c rack but sold it as l didn't want to change the unijoint and knuckle to fit my gc8

also l thought the steering angle sensor was part of the steering wheel not rack?

btw has anyone run gc8 pink links with 114.3pcd hubs+ axles? l'm beginning to think l should have bought the 02-04 STi GDB pink links
