The EJ251 is a 2.5 L (2457 cc) Horizontally Opposed SOHC Engine with a bore of 99.5 mm (3.92 in) and a stroke of 79.0 mm (3.11 in). Compression ratio is 10.0: 1. Firing order is 1 - 3 - 2 - 4. SAE power:

123 kW (165 hp) and 226 N·m (167 ft·lbf)

* Impreza RS 99-05 (US)
* Impreza Outback 00-04 (US)
* Forester 99-04
* Outback 00-04 (US)
EJ25E

SOHC 16 valve

Usage:

* Impreza RS 99~01
* Forester 99~00

so i've got a 2.2L and was just wondering what the 2.2 is. is the 2.5rs really superior or does that .3 matter at all?

Things different on the 2.2 L than the 2.5 RS...

The L's supension is a little softer and ride height it shigher. The RS has alloy wheels and different size tires. And that .3 displacement makes a bit of difference (145HP compared to 165).

Either way, the 2.2 is a great car. It's the bulletproof engine, strongest made by subaru.

2.2l = Dependable
2.5l = Blown Headgaskets

I have the same motor you have in my OBS-t & was able to run a slow 16.32 1/4 mile 3 times in a row when it was N/A with about $150 in mods + a fresh tune-up..
I was shifting @ redline, but I bet I could have run 15's if I shifted @ 5500RPMs.

Mods were
E-bay intake modded to pull cold air from fender
L/W crank pulley
Ground kit
Redline fluids in engine, tranny, & diff
I also had a WRX exhaust + high flow 2 1/4" cat - which did nothing for performance - just made noise....
My wagon came with 195/60 15's whereas most OBSs come with 205/60-15s which are taller & will yield a slower accelerating final drive.

Yeah I saw that on wiki but there is one saying US only, now I'm in Canada does it mean I have the other one. And what is the difference.
