Thanks for that info, i actually propped it up better when it came to lifting the engine out.

i'm not sure what happened with that tensioner. i did the bleeding process. it just didnt want to hold up i guess.
i'll see if my email to gates does anything.

I just read as recently as February this year another person on NASIOC having a failed Gates timing tensioner. I recommend you replace that tensioner with an OEM unit, set the timing and see if you need to pull your heads off. A failed tensioner can sound like what we hear in your video.

I've only used OEM, and have only compressed it one time to set the pin in place to install on the engine.

I jumped the gun thinking it was a bent rod *because thats all i found online*
until i pulled the motor and took off the timing cover and saw the tensioner was floppy.
I took off the driver side valve cover to find the exhaust cam cap bolts were loose.
I already have a plan to get everything swapped over to the new shortblock.
I will open a claim with gates and see where that goes.

Amazon will only offer a refund for that faulty tensioner.
I bought new oem tensioner/pulleys.
Took everything off the intake manifold to clean it, debating if I want to paint it or not.
Slowly putting it back together

While the motor is out, waiting on a few parts in the mail.
Decided to cover the bumper beam with some rustoleum, also the battery tray area.
I will be doing the same to the rocker panels under the side skirts, and also the trunk.
some before and after pics.

Need to clean the back of the engine bay,
and figure out the wire harness right above the downpipe.
I took out all the engine A/C stuff so the wire harness lays to close to the wideband sensor, which is a heated sensor.

Wrx bent valves - YouTube

after running it a bit longer, i hear some valved flapping around in there. so thats cool
Looks like i'm putting my IAG stage 2 block to use now.
i'm very disappointed i spent all that time and money and didn't test the valves when the engine was out....
live and learn.

Got the mockup of the TMIC air splitter done. well mostly, still got to figure out how to do the cushion/rubber around the intercooler.
But i think it looks decent, and i'm sure will help some. who knows.
Mostly did this project because i'm bored until the car goes gets a new heart.

Iag shortblock is getting built, heads port matched to 2.5l. Everything is getting built the right way.
Did some sanding on the fender to get rid of the flaky clearcoat.
One thing led to another and sanded to much....
Cleaned it up and sprayed primer.
Put on the jdm tails.

UPDATE!!!!!!
after waiting since March i was able to pick the car up this last weekend.
First impressions: engine sounds a little louder than a stock one, but i like it.
Looks pretty good also

LIST:
IAG stage 2 block
killer b pickup
ej205 heads were machined to match/other work
everything off the ej205 was swapped over
FXT radiator

drove it 94 miles home and no hiccups at all. Got a 1k mile break-in then go back for a power tune.

Time to slowly turn it into a wannabe track car.

picked up a set of snowflakes from a legacy
New tires, alignment.
BUUUUT
now the pass. rear tire is rubbing the 1/4 panel on hard turns.
The space between the tire and the panel is less on the pass, than it is on the driver side.
Unsure why.... i'm going to try and bend that flap up and see if that helps..

any suggestions would be great.
Pic of new wheels/tires.

Could the alignment be out on the passenger rear?
That could explain rubbing on only one side

i found out what it is. i had made a small bracket that i rivetted into the bumper because the hole was broken.
The bracket rubs on the tire. so i bent it up for now. will cut off a piece this weekend.

I got an alignment. isn't only the fronts that get work? since nothing in the back is adjustable.
