UPDATED PAGE 4

owned this 2.5rs for about 7 years. Rushed to get it after selling my 08 wrx. Did not do a carfax on it, i just bought it with no research.
Later found out it was involved in an accident or 2, was pretty bummed about that. but i finally got a 2.5rs like i've always wanted.
fast forward to may 2018 i got a idea to put a turbo motor in it. Started searching for a wrx/sti motor.
Found a wrecked wrx close by and started making a deal.
The swap took about 3.5-4 months from pulling the 2.5 to starting the wrx motor.
i had a faulty ground inside the car or else it would have started first try.
fixed the grounds and fired right up.
I did not take a lot of pictures because i didnt plan on documenting it. But what the hell.. here goes

CAR:
2000 2.5rs
miles @ time of swap ~208k

MODS:
ej205 out of 05 wrx/ stock wrx ecu/wire harness merge done by me.
VF48 out of 2015 sti
GR top mount
STI pink injectors
Perrin turbo inlet
Grimspeed 3 port EBCS
ebay 3 inch downpipe
mishimoto ancillary hose kit
Exedy oem style clutch
Kartboy pitch stop

SUSPENSION:
kyb struts
H&R springs? i cannot remember if thats correct.
stock front sway
no rear sway yet
GroupN transmission mount
Kartyboy shifter bushing
Kartyboy trans crossmember bushings

MISC:
STI stock catback
sti front/rear seats

Car as she sits, taken yesterday 10/27/2018, pictures will be in no order at all
Yes she needs a lot of TLC on the outside

MISC pics of the swap

motor waiting to go in

labeling the wire harness for the merge

the merge is happening. wrx harness on top/RS harnes on bottom

trying to figure out how to wire fuel pump controller to fuel pump assembly.

when i started the merge i wasn't thinking and accidentally cut a wire off the WRX harness. i immediately knew i messed up, i tried searching for a new plug until 2 weeks later i realized i could just sauter it together...

wire harness finished product

putting it back into the car. I made the ecu part a little shorter than planned and was a little tough getting put in place correctly.

Few mistakes along the way.
Put the motor in, started it up. white smoke out the exhaust. did the coolant test and it changed color so figured it was the head gaskets.
I learned that the motor had about 200k and the headgaskets were never done, according the lady i bought the motor from.
took it out, did the headgaskets/new timing belt kit/water pump.
got it all together and still had white smoke.... sh!!!t
took the downpipe off and lots of oil in the downpipe and back of the turbo, this must be the problem.

found a good deal on a VF48 out of an sti

motor going in first time? or second time? idk

got the motor in, i look up near the windshield and see the clutch fork... i kicked myself hard for that one. luckily didnt have to pull it all the way out to slip the fork back in the trans.

with a bigger top mount there is a 3rd bracket you need to have, i decided to try and build something myself.

its just an extension from the existing bracket. it's ugly but hey.

how it looks as of 10/27/18.
i need to tidy it up and fix a few things.

also getting an oil leak, and get big wiffs of oil when driving it. i think its the valve cover gaskets, which idk why considering they were new when i did the headgaskets. and/or the oil pan itself.

ALSO, anyone know what this is? is it the MAP? i don't need that with the wrx MAF correct?

Welcome, and good start!

When I started to strip my car for its cage I uncovered previously hidden accident repair work that was undocumented. Live and learn unfortunately.

ya its a shame, the title says clean. but you can tell it was in a wreck which sucks. the truck is off alittle, and there's space between the hood and headlight.

owell.

Decided to tackle the trunk looking for leaks.
I'd like to be able to drive down a gravel road without the trunk filling up with dust.

This seems to be bondo from previous owner. it's cracking

rust on the trunk top part. will need to sand down and hit with rust reformer.

that vent box leaks like crazy at the top. Poured some water onto the rear fender and it went inside the trunk with ease.

Going to remove all the mat stuff.
sand the whole trunk
hit the rust spots with rust reformer
Seal the leaks with clear silicone of some sort
paint the trunk with some sort of underbody spray? haven't fully decided on this part.

Had an idea to do a DIY tmic air splitter. But when doing the mock up mold
It sits further back than the bolts. So wondering how much more effective it would be than it is now.
If that makes sense.. I'll try and snap some pics of what I'm referring to

Heres a halfass mock up of this tmic splitter.
You can see in the pics there isnt much space between the hood and the intercooler, so i dont need some sides, just some rubber siding that presses onto the intercooler.

Thinking i'll just cut it out and put some rubber around it and see how it works out.
not sure if it will be an improvement or not. Maybe i'll log temps before and after and see what it turns out.

Its uneven i know. my cutting skills arent the best.

little bit more room here. Gasket of sorts should be good enough?

Not much room between here.

pulled the motor in believing it was a rod knock.
Take off the timing belt cover and BAM timing knotches are out of whack!!!
little bit of slack on the belt.
and it seems like the tensioner failed on me....
less than 250 miles on this kit and it fails....

what the absolute FU!!!!!!CK

after looking around i'll need to inspect to see if they are chinese parts.

took oil pan off and was surprised to see killer B items, makes me happy.

pickup was a little dirty. Will do a cleaning, after i find out how to clean these parts

you can kinda see the marks on the cam gears. Not lined up

anyone know how i can check for bent valves? i do not want to remove the heads unless i absolutely have to!

Well if you heard sound that sounded like rod knock that's probably not a good sign.

A compression and leakdown test should show you any bent valves but you would want to replace all your timing gear first and get the engine back in time before you even try it.

I'd still recommend just pulling the heads. Someone else might chime in with a different suggestion.

Today was fun.
Found out it was indeed the tensioner that failed. it moved way to easily.
I"M VERY UNSURE WHAT TO DO NEXT!!!!
i bought an iag block a few weeks ago, This ej205 block is fine after looking at it.
Do i buy a new tensioner and run it till it dies?
Do i go ahead with the build of the new block?
and keep the old block to sell?

Took the valve cover off to find a few of the bolts holding the cam in were loose...
and one bolt was even broke off.
HOW THE HEL!!!!! DOES THIS HAPPEN????

you can see the broke off bolt in there. also scoring on the cam?

Taking off the intake manifold i forgot a plug... ripped the wires clean out... How the eff do i go about this.
i was thinking of making the wire longer, wrapping it around the metal plug and soldering it.

I had a belt tensioner fail on one of my first motors. but it was the bolt holding it to the bracket, not the hydraulic part, that's crazy!

For peace of mind, get OEM timing components. At the very least, that tensioner.

Just watched your first start video, and I might blow your mind a smidge. I see how you have your hood prop to get it more vertical. Subaru actually designed this in to the car. See the eyelet tab on the top of the passenger strut tower at the front? the hook part of the prop rod that normally goes in the hood goes there. The other end has a few steps in it so the hood rests on it even in a light breeze. Once you get the hook in the eyelet it's pretty obvious where the other end goes in the hood. enjoy!
