I've been a member on RS25 for quite some time. Throughout the years my interest has been cyclical but I've always enjoyed Subarus ever since I saw what my dad's old 97 Legacy could do in the snow. When I turned 17, I was fortunate enough to have a brand new 2000 Blue Ridge Pearl RS. Throughout the years, I made some small mods to the car like some whiteline swaybars, Kartboy endlinks, sti v lip with rear spats, and a short ram air intake. I drove the car for about 10 years but was unlucky enough to have a run-in with an inexperienced 16 yr old female driver while at school in St Louis in 2008. I was deeply saddened by the loss of my Subie but I got a new Honda Fit to be practical. I never gave up the dream though. I did have to sell some parts to get through school but I kept the important ones.

Here is some of the carnage

Fast forward to 2010 - When I moved back to Pa, I got an apartment and had a separate room for all of my parts awaiting a car. I had been scouring all the usual internet auto ads waiting for a great car. I found a 1998 RS in RBP for about 6k but it was sold by the time I got out to the dealer. The 4 hour trip wasn't a total loss as I got to drive an 07 Stage 2 STI and seriously considered putting down my money and making payments. However, I knew it wasn't what I really wanted. I kept looking for another month and I found this ad with no pictures regarding a 2000 RS with 38k on the clock. I called and half expected to be like most of the other conversations I'd had with most dealers; too good to be true. To my surprise, the guy on the line said it was in fact a "2000 STI with 38,000 miles." Immediately, my mind started racing trying to figure out what it could be. Was it EJ207, EJ257, or just a wrx swap?!? Ok, so we know it has some type of turbo engine but....THE CAR IS IN SOUTH DAKOTA! After sharing my zeal with my father, he told me to book the flight and he would accompany me to the dealer. So, everything went well and while I was driving the car (about 90 mph mind you) something just broke and started thudding until I pulled over on the side of the road. The car would not move under it's own power and my dreams started looking bleak. Soooooo...the car got towed back to the dealership and we got it up on the racks. It was REALLY CLEAN underneath and I knew I couldn't pass it up. I started haggling with price but the guy wouldn't budge. The dealer agreed to fix the clutch and tranny and ship it to me at a later date. I wrote a check, we shook hands and I flew home with my dad.

To make a long story longer, the next month was filled with much angst, anger and much second guessing. The car kept getting kicked around from the shop to a local transmission shop. The car was originally though to have a bad clutch. That got fixed and then they realized that the front differential was totally messed up. After that they discovered that the rear diff was a 4.11 (I believe the same as the RS) and the transmission was a 3.90. The rear diff was then changed to a 3.90 to match the front and then it was up to some guy to drive through an ice storm to deliver my car. All-in-all, I am glad the car has finally gotten here but it was quite a journey to date.

Here are some photos for those of you who were bored enough to read my personal story

That's my dad in the background with his Outback Subie.

Now my Fit has to stay out in the cold.

FINALLY got an engine pic up...nothing too special yet

Thanks guys. This car is very much what I've wanted. I'm looking for a STi sport bumper to really set it off. I've got a set of gold V7 wheels but I can't do too much in the winter time since my garage is so small and it's freaking cold outside.

Winter is killing me. I wish I were outside enjoying the Subie. However, I did do a few upgrades since. I couldn't stand the worn out shift boot and as well as the soft pedal feel. I found a deal on Poleboy's MC brace and decided to install it. And for a more enjoyable shifting feel, I bought an STi Duracon shifter.

No, sadly I haven't had good lighting to do it some justice. I figured someone might know something about it. I am intrigued by it's lack of history. I do know that it was an original Illinois car and then it went down to Florida in 2006-7. The previous owner must have auto-crossed the car because it had a 3 point seatbelt in it.
