Default Loss of torque after overheating.

Yesterday my heater stopped working and when I looked down my temp gauge was pretty high. I had only been driving for about 5 minutes. I immediately pulled over and let the car idle for about a minute. The temp came back down to just above normal. I moved the car to a better place and added about a gallon of water.

I haven't had an issue with temp since but my torque has been dropping ever since. I have to rev the motor higher than normal just to get the car to move and it has lost most of it's pep.

The car is a 99 OBS with an ej22 with about 235k miles.

The first thing I thought it could be was the head gasket, but there is no oil in the coolent and no coolent in the oil. The motor has no visible leaks. There is no check engine light and no trouble codes. The fans turn on when it gets hot so I would assume the thermostat is good.
Any idea what it could be?
