I have a 1995 Subaru Impreza LX with Transmission Code: TZ102ZA3BA. This tranny is slipping and I’d like to replace it. I’ve been offered one from a 1997 Impreza Outback Sport Transmission Code: TZ102ZA5AA. Are these interchangeable? Thank you

Edit: I should clarify these are automatic transmissions

Depends what motor is in your car I think. All the outback sports of that year had a 4.11 final drive. you could have something different and you can not mix and match drive ratios.

There's something with the electronics as well, iirc. I think there were two versions for phase 1 cars, then another later on. You might be ok with a 97.

@RenoThrasher: Sorry. The TZ prefix should have tipped me off, but it was late and I just skimmed. Unfortunately I know next to nothing about Subaru auto transmissions, but I wish you the best of luck.

For the 93-01 Subarus the rule of thumb is usually this:

1.8 and 2.2 engine'd cars run a 4.11 Automatic Trans

2.5 engine'd cars run a 4.44 Automatic Trans

As long as the final drive matches, you should be ok.

in 95 the auto could be either 3.9 or 4.11, not sure what determines which car got what FD though.
