Default Do I need to tune

Forgive me if this has already been posted somewhere, I want able to find it. I plan on swapping an Ej207 into my00 rs. I plan to keep the motor as stock as possible. So if I do this do I need to tune the stock ecu? Or is just safe to get it checked out.

Just to be clear, you mean a stock EJ207 with a stock EJ207 ECU, right? With stock manifold, turbo, uppipe, downpipe and an exhaust similar to stock I bet that would be fine.

Yes, as if it rolled off the showroom floor.

If you are taking an EJ207 AND an EJ207 ECU ( please say yes ), then YES you will have to get a new tune.

Why?

Unless you are buying this engine and ECU as a matched set directly out of another car, then you have no idea what is on the EJ207 ECU.

Good info has already been shared but also keep in mind that an Ej207 is a JDM engine. That means the ECU is tuned to use fuel of much higher octane than what's usually available locally. 94 octane may be ok if you can get it but really you should tune it for North American fuel if you want it to last.

Thank you I didn't realize that they ran on a higher octane. Well that settles that. Thanks you for the help.

What version 207 and ECU?

It'll be fine if it's a V5/6

Hell, a V7/8/9 will be fine enough too if you really don't want to tune, but with those options it could be beneficial to tune it. I have seen a decent amount of knock on my V8.. but a lot of other factors went into that one.

Check out my journal, I've got a decent amount of info on this matter.

I was going to go with a v8. I'm going to leave it stock due to it being my daily driver. I might put forge internals in it. But that would be it.

Not sure why you'd want forged stuff in a DD, especially with the V8. The hypercast stuff will be fine.

You'll want to tune for timing and some boost control though. I've got some good calibration stuff setup on my V8 that i'm sure I've shared in my journal, so feel free to check em out.
