Lightbulb SMF conversion - 2005 RS

Hello all,

I've been searching the internet for information on anyone that has done a DMF to SMF conversion on a 2005 RS and i could not find anything. I know that it is quite a common thing with SMF conversion causing rattling noises and what not. I'm just wondering on what everyone else's experience was like in terms of rattling noise, performance etc. before i actually install mine.

Thanks in advance!

You wont regret getting rid of the DMF, theres nothing you can do to fix the squeaking they produce!

I just installed an oem flex-flywheel. They have a pressed steel plate which bolts to the main steel/machined flywheel. It's doing the job but i wish it was a bit lighter like my old solid flywheel. The flex-flywheel has a 230mm diameter clutch disc and weighs a total of 16.8kg (flywheel, clutch disc, press. plate) vs my old setup with a 225mm clutch which was 13kg. I can easily feel the difference! I have no idea where is light weight flywheel came from too!

I've never had issues of rattling or noise from a SMF setup either, only the DMF.

I have done it on two cars now. A 05 LGT and a 12 Impreza 2.5i. Both received LWFWs and both were much smoother running after the fact. I dont know where people are saying increased noise or vibration is coming from.

I have put LWFWs in everything I replace the clutch in no matter if it is DM or SM. The result has been a smoother running engine every time. I dont know if the OEM or OEM spec has as tight a tolerance for balance as the light weight wheels do.
