Default Transmission or wheel bearing or?! Help!

I have a 99 impreza L, Awd 180kmiles, auto tranny. I am getting what sounds like a wheel bearing noise but really only starts and stops at 55mph. Daughter ran the tranny about 2 quarts low (changed the fluid and she drove it without knowing it needed more). The sound is rhythmic but not really speed or rpm dependent, only gets loud at 55-58 mph then goes away. I thought it was the "center diff" but I replaced the tailhousing, output shaft and all associated bearings but the problem persist.

Changed out rear diff fluid, no weird smell or noise or shavings. Car off the ground tires all roll smoothly without much noice. But here's the weird thing..put in the fwd fuse and the noise goes away! So doesn't seem like it could be a wheel bearing because that fuse "should" have no change in the noise. Possibly the drive shaft carrier bearing? But that looked fine as well.. I am at a loss. Pfa.
