Thanks Storm. I saw the chart in the beginning and was sure it would work. I wanted to be 100% sure before I told my buddy that, then looked like a moron when it didn't work. :P Thanks again.

Is there a way to mix and match gears from different sets? For instance, I would really like to run an RA 5speed, but I want a longer fifth gear for freeway cruising. Can I just swap that one gear in the set?

Thanks

I have a question about the '02-'05 USDM WRX vs the '04-'08 Forester 2.5XT transmission's. The Final drive on the Forester XT runs 4.444 while the WRX is your typical 3.9. From what I've read the Forester XT (04 model) is actually running STI parts making it a ideal option for a swap (engine and tranny) with my 2.5rs (98). My question is how will the Final drive affect low end and power band? What about on the high end? From what I've read it sounds like the 4.444 will be quicker on the line but will have a lower top end? Can someone fill in the blanks for me?

^^^^^

The gear radios are the same aside from the final drive. This means gear spacing is the same, but less speed in each gear due to the lower final drive. Your top end doesn't change aside from top speed. When it starts affecting acceleration is when you start to have a lot of power to where the gearing is too short with not enough time accelerating.

I like the 4.444, but i don't like the gearing.

Hey Fuji, hopefully you're still around on rs25 (I've been slacking ).

Are pretty much all stock gearsets interchangeable on the 5MT cases?

I'm thinking about putting an 04 5MT gearset in my 97 OBS box (yes I'm still working on that, 2-3 years later) and didn't know if this was possible? Obviously I'd have to reshim the pinion for the front diff and I have a blown 03 wrx box with a blown gearset, which I'd use tail housing, transfer gears, center diff and rear diff out of an 04 WRX (which I also have). I could even throw in the front diff out of the 03, if that would be safer. I figure I won't be doing much over 300whp and not abusing the trans so it'd be an acceptable, budget friendly compromise (and with a taller 5th for highway).

You didn't want to just run a WRX tranny? Or a 6spd swap with long gears (under 2300 [email protected] in 6th gear).

Oh I want to. Money is tight because of school, was looking for a budget build. I'm probably just going to go with what I've got or swap in a WRX trans if this one decides to die. The poor thing isn't worth me getting a 6 speed or building a gearbox to take a beating.
