post #3 added with videos. I'll try to get a video of the JDM 6spd runing through the gears and also the PPG one of these days.

Good thread! I do have a correction though. The Outback and Legacy L were oddballs in 01 and 02. The ratio's you have are correct, but the FD is actually 3.9.

2001-2002 Legacy Outback - Ratios are correct, but the FD is actually 3.9.
2001-2002 Legacy L - Ratios are the same, but FD is also 3.9

Between these two transmissions, the only difference was 5th gear.
Outback was 0.871
L was 0.780

I understand why 5th was different (Outback runs 60 series tires vs. 55 series on the L) but I have no idea why Subaru changed the FD for these two models and just these 2 years, it just strays from the norm.

Might want to add a disclaimer about checking the transmission code on the bellhousing by the starter to the thread. You never know what you might run into!

good catch! updated

also updated the '08 WRX to 3.900FD. Somehow the rear diff assembly shows 4.111? But looking at the front ring gear shows 3.900. The LGT are 4.111 for '05/'06 where they changed to 3.900 for '07+.
