you could unfuck it by heat gunning it from the inside and pushing out gently with a rounded object.

A car that looks sort of like mine may have hit 200,000 miles on it's way back from Sno*drift. It's not mine though, I never speed.

Ok, so small problem has arisen: My 5th gear keeps popping out.

Now the transmission has developed a whine over the past little while here. I can pick up a legacy 5 speed locally for $350. I'm thinking I'll go ahead and buy it because the legacy's got a taller 5th gear ratio (.780 instead of .825) which should drop 200rpm off of my 70mph cruising (hopefully save a little gas on the highway as well). The EG REALLY doesn't need to be spun up as high as the stock 1.8 on the highway

Then I can rip into my current trans, probably replace the loose nut (that's what some WRX guys have done to fix a popping 5th gear, main input shaft nut that's supposed to be staked falls off). If this is the case I can then either re-sell my stock trans or... well... have some fun with a welder and see how far down the street I can get in RWD mode with an R160...

...May want to go dorifto with this one. Get a R180 or something so that I can swap RWD/AWD for summer/winter...

Guess that'll teach me about 130,000 mile transmission flush intervals. Especially at twice the stock torque output.

RWD EG33 lifted wagon.

I like where this is going. i'll be jelly as hell if you get an R180 rear end.

Well no, in the summer I put my dropped suspension back on, so it's a:

Summer: EG33 RWD dropped wagon with EDM WRX 17's
Winter: EG33 AWD Lifted wagon with DRAG somethingorothers

But I need to research R180's (R200's) and see how much of the rear subframe I'd have to change over.

If you get an R180 from a type r/ra it should bolt right up to the subframe, but you'd need to get hybrid axles or r180 hubs and the stock axles.

i'd get the hubs so you can also get 2 pots

Though good luck finding a trans with a FD you'll like that'll match up to a stock R180
